We're looking for Volunteer Police Cadet Leaders to help make a difference to young people |

Dear Resident, The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) scheme plays a vital role in supporting young people across our counties. Operating since 2014, the programme now runs 11 units, offering young people aged 13–18 a safe, structured environment where they can build confidence, develop practical life skills, and positively contribute to their communities. Through weekly sessions and community events, cadets take part in activities such as communication and teamwork skills, drill, policing scenarios, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, charity marshalling, and engagement work alongside neighbourhood officers. By doing so, they grow into confident, capable young adults with a strong sense of civic responsibility.
To keep this programme thriving, volunteers form an essential part of how the scheme operates, working alongside officers and staff to mentor young people. We are seeking more adults to join us as Cadet Leaders so we can continue delivering meaningful opportunities for young people across our communities.
By volunteering just two hours a week during term time, you can make a genuine impact on the lives of local young people—helping them stay safe, build resilience, and develop valuable skills for their future. Full training, uniform, ongoing support, and travel expenses are provided, and volunteers from all backgrounds are warmly welcomed. You do not need to have policing or youth‑work experience; what matters most is your willingness to support, guide and inspire.
Becoming a Cadet Leader is also an enriching experience for adults—offering opportunities to develop leadership, communication, organisation, and mentoring skills, as well as becoming part of a supportive team working closely with local policing. Volunteers are recognised for their service and may have opportunities to support high‑profile events, summer camps, community safety initiatives, and more.
We are looking to recruit Unit Leaders in the New Forest. If you are interested in leading a unit and feel you have the suitable experience to help it thrive, please contact us to discuss the role further.
